Impact

Research from around the world confirms what we witness on every ride: our trishaw rides improve health outcomes in seniors and enhance their quality of life.

Aging in BC

According to the International Federation on Ageing, “the number one emerging issue facing seniors in Canada is keeping older people socially connected and active”.

In British Columbia, the senior population has grown by 41% over the last 10 years, compared to 15% for the overall population.

Within the next decade, more than 25% of BC’s population will be over the age of 65.

Barriers to staying connected increase with age. Social isolation is linked to a greater risk of disease, disability, and cognitive decline than obesity.

Social Connection

Award-winning Canadian author and psychologist Susan Pinker, a member of the Cycling Without Age community, writes in The Village Effect that face-to-face contact is essential to lifelong happiness and health. She highlights the importance of intergenerational relationships and social integration — values that define Cycling Without Age.

As Pinker notes, programs like ours are needed more than ever, giving seniors and people with mobility challenges a chance to step back into the world, reconnect, and feel part of the community again.
